ArcGIS Desktop Training

ArcGIS Desktop Training

Urban Environmental Research conducted GIS training for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) Crime and Intelligence Analysts to address their requirement to become familiar with the functionalities of ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 software. Previously, LVMPD analysts used ArcView 3.1, an older and outdated version of ESRI’s mapping and geographic analysis software. The purpose of the training was to help LVMPD staff and analysts transition their workflows from ArcView 3.1 to ArcGIS Desktop 9.3, in a minimum amount time and with the least effect on the performance of their current tasks. The training included configuration of a 12-person computer lab environment and development of course materials, with lectures and exercises focused on using real-world crime data. A total of 36 analysts were trained during several 3-day classes, and LVMPD is now successfully using the new software and techniques acquired during the training.
