Silver Shield Rural Nevada

Since 2008, Urban Environmental Research has managed and conducted operations in support of the Silver Shield program in coordination with the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security. Silver Shield is the Critical Infrastructure Protection Program which provides the unifying structure for the integration of existing and future critical infrastructure protection efforts within the state of Nevada. In coordination with DHS and the Nevada Threat Analysis Center (NTAC) Infrastructure Liaison Officer (ILO) Coordinator, Silver Shield is conducting site visits to identify, capture, and catalog Tier 2 facilities and other locations of interest in Rural Nevada. Rural Nevada is the area comprised of all Nevada counties excluding Clark and Washoe. This activity is based on the phased approach to Critical Infrastructure protection developed by DHS, and promulgated through the Critical Asset/Key Resource Asset Protection Technical Assistance Program (CAPTAP). This consists of making initial contact with the owners/operators or designees of those facilities, systems or assets which are representative of the area’s critical infrastructure, mass population centers or sites having symbolic importance. The Silver Shield teams are tasked with completing a base level of initial survey activities which includes populating the Automated Critical Asset Management System (C/ACAMS) and the emergency management tools as developed for first responders as appropriate. An Orator+ multi-media presentation will be completed for each assessed facility. A total of 67 facilities are scheduled for assessment, of which 58 are schools.
